Best of times

I met Susan along with a lot of other friends many years ago when I joined a local Martial Arts club. I realize now that one of the reasons I actually stuck with this club for as long as I did was because it was an opportunity to meet my group of friends at least twice a week. We did so much together; birthday's, basketball, skating, swimming, karaoke, even kung fu field trips :-) If you look at the photos below you'll see that the adventures recently continued at Ben Nevis :-)

In 1999 I left the UK to live in Canada and I lost touch with most of my friends in England. Last year when I came back on vacation, my brother hosted a party at his place. I thought I'd invite my old friends but I didn't really expect many of them to show. To my surprise practically everyone turned up, including Susan. She came all the way from Manchester! I'm so glad to have had that opportunity to reconnect with her. I'm not surprised to see how many friends she made over the years and how profoundly she touched other people's lives. I think she always had that "spirit" that many of you have described.

When I found out that we'd lost Susan I haven't been able to stop thinking how sorry I am that she's no longer with us, and that she's left so many close friends behind. I'll never forget the great times we had in our small group, they will always be an important part of who I am today.

I'm sorry we lost you Susan. I know you've gone to better a place and that somewhere out there you're smiling :-)

Thinking of you

Raj

I miss our group! we had the best times together...

Sam and Sue were the babies of the group, but they were always ahead of their age in maturity, apart from when Sue and Sam played against each other at Street Fighter on Nintendo, then there would be an all out war!

My Dear Sweet Sue by Michael Erdman

My Dear Sweet Sue,

It hurts to think that you and I shall never speak again, but I strongly believe that you will always be with me, in my heart, my thoughts, and projected through my character.

I have spent my evening walking around Barn Hill, sitting on the benches that we used to sit on, looking out at the view from the side of the park where we had first kissed, and the more I re-live these wonderful moments that we have shared together, the more I realise that we both have been very fortunate to have had these magical moments... to have shared what we have, as well as experience that level of connection and chemistry. I am proud to have been this person in your life.

I want to thank you for being so wonderful to me, so supportive, so optimistic, you were always so kind and intensely loving. You, my sweet friend, I consider the most important person that I have been fortunate enough to grow with, you are truly an Angel. I hope and pray that you stay with me and keep me company until I too cross over. .

With Love,

Michael xxxxxxxx

p.s. I deeply wish your family and loved ones a very long life, they are all in my thoughts

Sue for me you are Mrs Psychology department!! U sold the Uni and department to me on that open day and u were still there after I graduated. At first (as a wee fresher) I found your intelligence, eloquance and striking confidence rather scarey. But later seeing you out partying and getting to know you over the 3 years I realised how cool and non-scarey you are!!!

I will always appreciate your adivice and reasuring words as well as all of the cheeky departmental gossip you shared with me!!! Even on such a sad time, i cant but help smiling when i remember you, your energy and talent.

My thanks for having met You and my thoughts and prayers to Sam, Johny and your family.

Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.

Just messaged you the other day, its seems unreal.

In times like these there are little words of consolation, the only thing that can be said is you lived your life to the fullest.

I dont think I can ever remember a time at school you came in with homework undone, you were always dedicated and always an achiever.

My school memories almost always include Ms Croke's Latin class with you and your sister.

Times like these you question the meaning or purpose of life, if something so cruel can happen, so so sad.

Just like everyone else my thoughts are with Sam, hope she finds it in herself to stay as strong as she possibly can.

Sam, my thoughts to you and your family. Susan - I will never forget your smile, your laugh, your skill and your dancing.

It brought Ibsen to mind:

SHE last, late guest
To the gate we followed;
Goodbye -- and the rest
The night-wind swallowed.

House, garden, street,
Lay tenfold gloomy,
Where accents sweet
Had made music to me.

It was but a feast
With the dark coming on;
She was but a guest --
And now, she is gone.

I didn't even know you as well as many as your friends but this news just made me cry my eyes out. Enjoyed every second we spent together, especially bumping in to each other at random parties discovering mutual friends we had no idea we had! This is so sad, all I can do is echo what other people have said here. I would definitely agree that you were very much liked by everyone who spoke to you. You'll be sorely missed.

Sue, you were one of my best uni mates. It fills me with sorrow to think that I can't just pick up the phone and hear your happy upbeat voice. You meant so much to everyone and always lit up any room that you came into. I'll miss our random chats about nothing in particular and your uncanny ability to know what I was thinking before I even told you. You were an amazing girl and one that I am proud to say I'll never forget.

You're in a better place now.
